Long Live The Shop

We are fast approaching the first anniversary in our new North Road location - what a year it has been. The workshop has grown considerably meaning more items coming in for our nut and bolt restorations. Our studio space has increased in size allowing a variety of uses particularly the ever successful taxidermy workshops. We continue to travel widely in search for well engineered lighting, beautiful decorative home decor and furniture and our particular brand of diverse and wide ranging merchandise. Our UK buying network has also considerably expanded increasing our buying potential.

All in all we continue to do what we love, building relationships with our lovely clientele and affirming belief in bricks and mortar shops like ours, where friendships are formed, stock is touched and imagined and, we hope, great service is given.

Long live the shop!

Digs - Our Relocation to North Road (Corner of Foundry Street)

We’re excited to be moving to a larger premises in North Road. The Dolphin Inn used to be a fully working pub until 1971 and it has been used for various retail outlets since then. Luckily for us, it still retains some of the pub character inside as well as an imposing exterior. Lots of dirty jobs later (we’re used to that) and hopefully we will be ready by the end of October.

Gloucester Road has been amazing. Local residents old and new have been incredibly supportive, as have the many visitors to Brighton who have been generous in their support enabling us to make the leap to a bigger shop where we will expand all our ranges. Particularly it gives us hight ceiling height for the lighting and more floor space for the furniture we intend to stock more of. As always, our stock will be based on our love of all things decorative, old and not so old, good engineering and beautiful objects. Hope to welcome you there.

Christmas in the North Laine

We are excitedly approaching our third Christmas in the North Laine.  It seems like no time at all since we first opened our doors slightly apprehensively and wondered how our particular brand of bonkers would be received by fellow Brightonians.  Glad to say that we are still here and our particular eclectic tastes have been very well received, so thank you Brighton!

During December we will be opening every Sunday (except for the 3rd December when there is a taxidermy class)  from 11-4.  We are participating in the North Laine Evenings of Christmas Shopping on the 7th & 14th of December so will be open till late!! Two Brighton choirs are performing so it should be a great Christmassy evening!

We wish all our many customers, friends and fellow shop keepers in the North Laine a very Happy Christmas.

Taxidermy Workshops

Those of you taxidermy aficionados (me included) who have been following us will be aware that since Sarah had her lovely baby we have been searching for a new instructor for regular workshops.  We are happy to have found Teresa Walsh who is going to kick off our new round of classes.  Teresa is an experienced tutor and member of the Guild of Taxidermy.

Our first workshops will be MOLES!  To be held on Sunday 12th November and Sunday 3rd December 2017., starting at 10.30 am and expected to last approximately 5 hours.  All materials are provided and you are most welcome to bring 'props' for your Mole, if required.

Refreshment is provided (no gin, doesn't mix with scalpels, sorry) and feel free to bring a packed lunch.

Workshops are restricted to a maximum of six people and are held here in our shop.  The cost for the MOLE workshop is £100 per person and full payment in advance secures your place.  This can be paid online, by telephone or in the shop.

Look forward to seeing you!

Shopping In the Laines

We are lucky enough to be in the beautiful city of Brighton in the North Laine.  Lots of changes have taken place in the Laine during the last five years, we were sad to see the loss of the Brighton Architectural Salvage shop which has been at the heart of Gloucester Road for more than 30 years.    Several quirky individual independent shops have opened and are  thriving, here are some of our favourites:

Era - great guys who absolutely love and  know their subject - selling mid-century modern and design furniture, brands such as Ercol, G Plan, Stag and Ladderax and offering a restoration service.  - 48 Upper Gardener Street, North Laine, Brighton BN1 4AN www.era-brighton.com

George McKechnie Antiques - wonderful emporium of antique furniture, glass, mirrors and shop fittings.  George has been in the Laine for more years than we would write and is something of a local fixture.  - 18a Tichbourne Street, Brighton BN1 1UR @george.mckechnie.antiques

Snoopers Paradise - a completely mad and random flea market paradise with over 90+ stalls, expect to stay half a day here!  - 7/8 Kensington Gardens, Brighton BN1 4AL 01273 602558

The Pond - newly taken over and completely renovated pub in Gloucester Road.  Great staff, great beer and great food - what more could you ask? - 49 Gloucester Road, Brighton BN1 4AQ www.thepondbrighton.com

Black Mocha Cafe - absolute life saver for us here at Digs.  Absolutely adore their daily fresh offerings of deliciousness and the hot chocolate is the best in Brighton. - 103 Gloucester Road, Brighton BN1 4AP Find them on facebook Black Mocha Brighton @blackmochaBN1

La Choza - Best Mexican in town!  great food and nice people.  36 Gloucester Road BN1 4AQ www.lachoza.co.uk
